This book is about
Hung is in his classroom practising calligraphy. After school, he goes to see Ling Ling, the Chinese panda.
Ching, the pet keeper, tells Hung and his sister, Mai, that Ling Ling is going to be given to the Japanese visitors as a gift.
Hung is sad and decides to find a way to hide Ling Ling.
He gets some ink and covers Ling Ling's fur in it to make him look like a black bear, but Ling Ling goes into the pond and the ink is washed away.
Next, Hung tries to hide Ling Ling in the bamboo. However, Ling Ling eats the bamboo and gets found.
Hung runs away with Ling Ling, but is seen by the Emperor. The Emperor says that Hung should have told him how he feels about Ling Ling. The Emperor makes a decision to let Hung take care of Ling Ling.
