Feeling the love?

I am sorry to say we are leaving you, as my son has recently become a free reader who loves books. This process has been helped considerably by all the lovely books you have provided so promptly to us over the last year and a half. He has gone up from Blue level to free reader in that time. Again many thanks.

May I tell you how much we are loving Reading Chest and the never-ending supply of stimulating books. Marcus particularly enjoys non-fiction and the range of subjects to which you have given him access, is fantastic. The balance between fiction and non-fiction has always been beautifully handled too. Finally I must tell you that it is uncanny how often the books we have received, have been completely apt to something we have just done or something Marcus has just begun to cover at school. All in all, an excellent service – thank you.

Thank you Reading Chest, you have empowered me to fully support my 6 year old son to become a proficient reader who can read anything he likes. He is now enjoying loads of books and takes time to read silently by himself especially after bath and stories with us, before he goes to sleep. I was told by his old school by his year 1 teacher that she ‘couldn’t keep up with us and the books we required to support him at that stage, so we turned to Reading Chest and used the bronze package successfully to fill the gap – we moved him up book bands usually months before the school did and I fully believe that this was crucial to retain his interest in reading, stimulate his learning and allow him to progress at a speed that was right for him and avoid frustration. He is on ruby band at his new school but is free reading so we no longer require the books but a massive thank you to Reading Chest for your service over the last year and all the amazing books.

I home educate both my children my son has autisum and is very much still behind in reading its very hard to get him to read even still with your books but my daughter loves them especialy the fact books

My son absolutely loves the Reading Chest and so do I. It allowed him to continue reading over the summer holidays. Unlike the antiquated books we get sent home from school the books from the Reading Chest are lively, often funny and capture my son’s interest. They really are a delight to read with him.

I would just like to add I think Reading Chest is fantastic and it has really helped move Arabella on through the reading bands. Arabella loves looking for the envelopes in the post and reading the books to me, herself and her little brother. Some certainly get read more than once. I just wish I could work out a system that we had a constant supply at home during the summer holidays. Reading Chest makes that extra reading at home so easy with peace of mind that your child is reading at the right level. Dear Reading Chest, many many thanks for your service which I have been using for my reception child since November. I started using Reading Chest after having it suggested to me on Mumsnet and have not regretted it for a moment. My child’s school would not give her books she could decode and she was becoming very confused. We read Reading Chest Phonics books at her level to begin with but now she has the knowledge to read anything. To go from pink in November to Turquoise/purple in July is amazing and we could not have done it without your help. I recognise some of the other parents who have made comments on this page, so it seems as if a lot of us are subsidising various local schools! Many thanks Phonics

I am cancelling my membership after a 18 months or so as both children bring home so many reading books from school and we don’t have time to read them all now. She does not like reading the same book and so I was spending a fortune on new books and found our library choice limited. My son started reading chest in reception last October. I found the school had a limited selection of books and with a daily change of books he soon exhausted the reading material within a month or so. Further I find( personal opinion entirely) Oxford reading tree books which are available in our school don’t seem to offer the same level of challenging new words compared to other reading schemes. Reading chest have a big selection of books in each book band and my son has progressed through several bands very quickly and his vocabulary has really improved. He likes opening the envelopes personally addressed to him and looking at his new books when they arrive.What a brilliant idea. We will definitely stay with reading chest till he exhausts the book bands and then no doubt back again when my second child starts reading. Thank you Reading chest!!

I cannot fault Reading Chest. Their service is impressively efficient and the books they are provide are great – an excellent range and in immaculate condition. So nice to be able to get so many non-fiction titles and books that appeal to boys. The idea of getting books sent to him through the post really appealed to my son and he went up 4 reading bands in a very short space of time after we signed up with Reading Chest. It was just the extra help we needed for him to make that leap.

My son who is 4 absolutely loves your books and receiving them through the post. We have only had membership for 3 weeks but he has already been moved up a reading level at school. I do wonder if it would be possible for gold members to have more than 6 books at one time if necessary? Because my son is so keen, he has been reading between 1-4 books every day. This makes the (impressively quick) postal turnaround service seem a little slow when we only have 3 books to read for three days – we repeat them, but with weekends we could just do we having 2 or 3 books more each week to tide him over. He just loves all the stories so much!

Daniel is 8 and has struggled to read as he is dyslexic. Reading Chest has been a great support providing interesting material for him.We ve been members for nearly 2 years and are on white level now.With RCs help Daniel will become a free reader in the next year.This is a great resource at a good price. Reading Chest is absolutely fabulous. Although both my children get plenty of books from their schools, they don’t get the huge selection that Reading Chest provide. The topics are interesting and a great mix of fiction and non-fiction. The books are in perfect condition and always come very quickly by return post. Thank you!

We joined Reading Chest nearly 2 years ago and now all 3 of our children are using it and still ask excitedly each morning if some new Reading Chest books will come today. The books always come by return post and are always in immaculate condition. I cannot recommend Reading Chest highly enough – it is especially great during the school holidays when the children don’t get books from school. I have been enlisted with Reading Chest since my daughter started reading in reception (roughly 2 years). It is now with much regret that I am stopping my Reading Chest Membership, purely on the basis that my daughter has now gone onto Library books (32 – 64 pages)in school (Y2 age 6) and we are struggling to fit in all her reading, together with her vast collection of personal books. Her enthusiasm and love of reading I am convinced is purely from the fact of the variety of books and ability to have furthered her reading age so quickly with the benefit of Reading Chest. The service is fabulous and I have never had any reason to not promote your services to other friends. Thank you so much for all the beautiful hours we have spent together reading!. Amazing! My 5 year old daughter loves reading so I signed up to give her more variety and so she had enough books to keep her going in the holidays. In 8 months she has gone up 6 book bands and is reading 2 school years above her recommended reading level! Has even got my ‘uninterested in reading’ 7 year old son reading more and making good progress!

My son has only been on the Reading Chest scheme for two weeks and has moved up two levels already! He has moved from turquoise to gold. I would most definitely recommend this scheme.

I would like to say how fantastic the Reading Chest is and I highly recommend to friends with young children learning to read.

This scheme is fantasic! My 5 year old joined on the red book band – just 8 months later, she is on turquoise. I am certain her progress is down to all the extra practice. It’s such a great boost to have books at just the right level, to supplement the twice weekly school readers. And thankfully, she loves Biff, Chip and Floppy!

This was a great Christmas present for my grand daughter last year. She loved getting the books in the post and has now reached a level where she is well catered for at the local library. I will certainly return when my next grand daughter is ready to enjoy this experience.

Just to say that we have found Reading Chest to be a great resource and I’m so glad we found you! School does not give out a particularly high number of books to read at home and so we quickly got bored and it’s hard to find exactly the right level ones at the library. Getting some in the post definitely increased the range of books we tried and meant that reading didn’t get forgotten in the holidays either! We are cancelling our subscription now having started it halfway through Reception and now, at the beginning of Year 2, my daughter has finished the reading scheme and is happily reading ‘chapter books’. Great prompt service, good quality books and great choice of books. Have recommended to several friends. I’m sure we’ll be back when my son is ready for the Reading Challenge!

Our daughter is only half way through her Autumn term in Year 2, has moved up 2 reading levels after the Summer break and is now in the top reader’s group in her class. I just wanted to say how wonderful reading chest is. I cannot recommend you enough, and indeed recommend you any opportunity I can to all my friends. Your book selection is absolutely wonderful, and spot on for my daughter’s reading level. We have been with reading chest for nearly 18 months and it has made a huge difference to my daughter’s reading – she is now one of the best readers in her class. The books always arrive very promptly, often within a couple of days of returning the old ones, and are in perfect condition. The customer service is absolutely brilliant too. If you are considering whether to join up, please do! We only originally signed up for 1 month, and here we are 18 months later.

The service we received was excellent with a good variety of books coming quickly through the post.My 5 year old boy has gone up 4 book bands from when we started with reading chest in a very short time. Would definitely recommend , especially if like us you only get a couple of books a week from school.

It is with great sadness that we are cancelling our subscription with Reading Chest. Everything has been clear and straight forward and deliveries / swaps have been speedily delivered. We have loved receiving books from your vast range and we have read some brilliant stories that we would, otherwise, have not known about. My daughter was aged 5 when we joined and within only a couple of months her passion for reading grew so strong that she went from average in her class to one of the first free readers in her class. £9.95 a month is a drop in the ocean considering the joy we have both had reading together. Reading Chest is excellent. The first books arrived quickly and the swaps did too. My son loves the fact that the envelope is addressed to him and is really motivated by the reward chart and stickers provided, to read and re- read the books sent. The non fiction selection is excellent and great for getting a boy interested in reading. Of the books we have had so far he has loved all but one – he especially likes the Rigby Star ones. Reading Chest has been fantastic for my daughter, who was ‘not reading at the expected level’ (whatever that means) a year ago. We were very unsatisfied with the frequency of book changes at school and our local rural library has a poor selection. Reading Chest ignited my daughter’s love of books, the service and selection is first class. We are just about to move onto the final level and we will be sorry to outgrow it. 11 months after joining my daughter has just read the first Harry Potter book and almost all of the Famous Five books at nearly seven years old. I have 6 year old twins who are both on gold level – I originally joined Reading Chest during the school holidays so we could get some extra practice in. But I have been so impressed with the broad range of interesting books we are sent (especially the non-fiction) that I have continued the twin’s membership to Reading Chest for me! My children are allowed to take a book home each day from their school….so in theory they could bring 10 books home a week for free. But I am so bored of the range of books their school offers – while in comparison I now look forward to practising reading with my children each night. And in just three weeks their teachers have noticed the twins are reading more confidently. Reading Chest also sends out new books the same day they receive the returned books, so there is an excellent turnaround of books. I highly recommend Reading Chest.

My daughter had been using Reading Chest for about a year now and the difference it has made is amazing. Just signed my boy up – he starts Reception in September. I have just closed my account after 3 years, Henry is now a confident reader, way above his reading years. Your service enable us to achieve this through choosing books geared at his level and using the star charts for confidence building and of course rewards. Just wanted to give some feedback – over the Christmas holidays my daughter moved up two reading bands by the time she went back to school – a great motivator and its been so enjoyable – onwards and upwards with Reading Chest.

We have just cancelled our membership as our son is now a free reader. We have had our membership for just under a year and in that time, have found the service to be fantastic! I would like to say a big thankyou to reading chest for providing an excellent service both in terms of speedy turn around of books being sent and offering fabulous selection. Having been a member since june 2012,it is with regret we have to cancel so near to completing our bookband levels. The Reading Chest has allieviated my daughters frustration at being given books home from school that were all to easily read and remained unchallenging. It also has enabled my daughter to progress at her own individual pace, with access to a superb variety of suitable books, and not be pigeon holed to the pace of her reading group in class. This in turn has stimulated her interest in reading and made it a far more enjoyable experience for both of us. Highly recommended.

My 4-year-old daughter’s reading has improved really quickly with Reading Chest – I am absolutley delighted and have recommended it to all of my friends! Addressing the envelopes to children is a genius idea and she gets really excited when each new envelope arrives! I just have one suggestion, and that is that the first, pink, band is broken down into 2 sections, maybe Pink A and Pink B. Very first books are really really simple, BUT we have been sent all sorts of combinations – eg very simple (Kipper…. Mum….. Dad…. Chip…. Floppy….. Oh no!) at the same time as quite complex Stage 1+ books. For the first few weeks children really do need the very very simple books…. and not being sent with Stage 1+ books. Conversely, now that she has read around 100 books she is handling Stage 1+ very easily….. yet every so often a really basic book arrives which is now a waste of time for her. It hasn’t particularly been a problem as she is bright and I’m a teacher so able to help her easily. But not all children just starting to read will cope with first word-type books along with complex ones all being sent at the same time. Anyway, that aside, THANK YOU for providing a terrific service. I wish I had known about you last year when I was frustrated beyond with my son having 2 stage 1 books a week from his school (which he read in the first evening)- and I couldn’t find any stage 1 books anywhere to ‘top up’ his reading. My daughter definitely has had a head start – she’s almost finished all of the pink books now and LOVES reading, which I am just thrilled about! Many thanks.

This system is brilliant! With an everchanging supply of books I managed to keep my 6 year old son reading all over the summer holidays and he has now moved up a reading band in his first week back at school. I can’t recommend this system enough…
