Jen Appleyard is the owner of Reading Chest, which she took over in 2024. She trained originally as a dentist. It's not the most obvious background for running a children's book service, but the habits it builds — precision, patience, attention to detail — turn out to matter quite a lot.
She's also a parent, and has taught two boys to read from scratch — including through the particular chaos of a pandemic — coming out the other side with a clear sense of what families actually need: the right books, at the right time, without the guesswork.
Running Reading Chest is her way of making that easier for everyone else.
