As part of National Storytelling Week, residents of Cavell Court Care Home in Norwich have created videos retelling classic children’s stories like Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and The Three Little Pigs. These stories are now ready to be enjoyed by children across the country.
When we listened to them in the Reading Chest office, we were all completely captivated. The calming and mesmerizing storytelling reminded us of the importance and magic of listening to stories during childhood.
Beyond being a wonderful activity, listening to stories and sharing books from a young age has significant educational benefits. It opens up new worlds and vocabulary for children, helping them explore beyond their own experiences. For reluctant readers, it can also be an effective way to maintain focus and spark interest in books.
Listening to stories shows children that reading isn’t just for school – it’s something to be enjoyed for pleasure. It also offers the chance to discuss a variety of subjects and situations that children may not encounter in their daily lives.
It’s never too late to ignite your child’s passion for reading. Sharing stories is one of the best ways to give children a strong start in life. Be inspired by National Storytelling Week and read to someone today!
