Returning Books

Swapping books is easy: pop up to eight books (or six on the Extended band) in the prepaid envelope and drop it in the post. This section covers how many to send, what to do if something gets lost, and where to return books if your envelope goes missing.

How many books should I send back?

On most plans, you can post up to eight books at a time in an envelope. This is called a swap. If you return fewer than eight books, you might not be making the most of your allocated number of swaps allowed in a month (if you send four books back to us, we’ll post four new ones out — but you could have had eight!).

Please don’t post more than eight books in one go, as it’s likely that they won’t fit in the envelopes we use and won’t make it back to us.

If you’re on our “Extended” band, we’ll be sending you six books instead of eight (because they’re much larger and longer!). Please just send back up to six books when you’re on this band.

I’ve lost my return envelope, can you send me a new one?

Because postage is pre-paid on your return envelope (you’ll notice that it has stamps on it), if you lose this envelope, you’ll need to return your books at your own cost to us. We’ll then get some new ones shipped out.

Just send your books to:

Reading Chest
Petersfield
Church Road
Baschurch
SY4 2EF

You can either drop them at a post office to have them tell you the correct postage cost (the cheapest option), or you can use four second class stamps, or three first class stamps.

I’ve lost or damaged a book. What should I do?

Whilst we hope that everyone takes good care of our books, accidents do happen. Please let Reading Chest know by contacting us. We may have to charge you £4 to cover the replacement of the book.
