Our advanced book review template is designed for children who are reading fluently and are ready to explore stories in more detail. It encourages thoughtful responses, clear explanations, and deeper comprehension — while still keeping the focus on enjoyment.

Children are encouraged to:

• Record key details including the book title, author, date, star rating, and how the book made them feel
• Summarise the plot clearly in their own words
• Describe the setting and illustrate it with a drawing
• Explain whether they would recommend the book, giving reasons
• Choose a favourite character and explain why they liked them
• Explore cause and effect by explaining how one event in the story led to another

This template supports higher-level comprehension skills such as reasoning, sequencing, and explaining ideas clearly — without feeling like a test or piece of homework.
