CCVC Word Cards
Our CCVC word cards focus on four-letter words with consonant blends at the beginning — like frog, stop and black. These words help children practise blending two consonants smoothly before moving on to the vowel sound.
These cards are especially useful for:
- Practising initial blends like bl-, cl-, dr-, fl-, gr-, and st-
- Building confidence with longer decodable words
- Improving fluency and reducing “sound-by-sound” hesitation
- Strengthening spelling alongside reading
Encourage your child not to separate the first two sounds too sharply — they need to glide together. A quick tap-and-blend approach works brilliantly. Keep sessions short, positive, and celebrate the wins when those blends start to flow.
Available in both colour and black and white versions.

"Stop", "clip", "frog" — words that start with two consonants are a proper step up. This activity helps your child crack those initial blends one at a time.
