This book is about
When Harriet was little, she was used as a slave. She got whipped and hurt over the years.
As soon as Harriet was old enough she decided to follow the North Star that led to the ¨Underground Railroad¨, because it led towards Canada where there was no slavery.
She became a ¨conductor¨ on the Underground Railroad and helped lots of people to escape from slavery.
There was a civil war between the North and South. The North who did not want slavery won and the South surrendered. So there was a law which abolished slavery. Unfortunately, the President of America, Abraham Lincoln, was murdered by a Southerner.
Black people still struggled for equality for a longtime.
Harriet helped women to be given the vote and started a care home for old people. She died in the care home on 10th March 1913.
The main characters are
Harriet Tubman.
My favourite part of the book is
Finding out the meanings of new words like abolished, campaigners and muskrat.
I would also like to say
There is a time-line of Harriet Tubman´s life at the back of the book and freed slaves got to go to school.
