Feeling the love?

We used Reading Chest over the summer to keep my son interested in reading. The variety of books were great, he loved receiving his new books and the activity pack encouraged him to keep on reading through the holidays. To top it off, he moved up a reading level when he started back at school thanks to the Reading Chest! A brilliant service that I’d highly recommend.

We started using Reading chest to help our daughter keep up with her reading during the school holidays. The service is fast and efficient and she really enjoyed having a variety of books to choose from (where at school she would only be able to choose one at a time and often ended up with books she wasn’t that interested in).

The system Reading Chest used meant she was able to hang on to some of the ones she enjoyed and switch out others each month and it really encouraged her to read more. Great service.

Before we started, my children were struggling with their reading, and because their school doesn’t often send books home, we needed a consistent way to support them. Thank you so much for giving my son such a love of reading. The reading books from school were so uninspiring that he was really reluctant to read but being able to select reason schemes and even specific books from Reading Chest really engaged him again and he’s now at this moment sat at the kitchen table reading a chapter book while he eats his breakfast.

My son started on Reading Chest in summer last year, it gave me peace of mind that he was continuing his reading over the holidays. Reading Chest has been great to encourage regular reading. The books are all in very good condition and we have enjoyed the sticker charts!

Both my daughters have benefitted greatly from Reading Chest. It was a fantastic way to support them at home and develop their love of reading at a level appropriate to their stage. This enabled them to experience success and read a set of 6 books fully, before moving on to the next book band. We’ve been really happy with Reading Chest books for my daughter. We started during lockdown and then continued because it was so helpful getting a supply of new books at regular intervals for my daughter to read. She became a free reader (and loves reading) and we didn’t need Reading Chest books anymore. We are now looking forward to starting Reading Chest again for my son. Wow, I rarely leave a review but my experience with Reading Chest was so positive I had to write something. After using them for 3 years I have to say they really did foster a love for reading and learning in my children, and it was always super easy and straightforward to use. Reading Chest has been a completely transformative experience for my son. I had one quick reader – his elder sister – and was at a bit of a loss with a little boy who just couldn’t get on with his school books, and was evidently falling behind. It’s taken a good few months, but the excitement of getting books in the post – and of the lovely colourful charts and stickers, not to mention the certificates for achievement – has done the trick! He reads fluently now, and with real enjoyment – something I’m still amazed by. The Reading Chest service is wonderful, and I would recommend it to anyone who feels they need to do a little bit more to support a child’s early reading.

Our daughter has surprised us by developing a brief enthusiasm for Alphablocks, and learning to read six months before she is due to start school. Our local library turns out to have a very limited selection of very early readers and so we’ve signed up with you. We’re very pleased so far and so is our daughter.

We have loved reading chest, it has got both my children started with reading and given them some lovely books to read (the school they receive seem rather outdated!). My son is now flying and loving Beast Quest and the like. My daughter is less interested but it has still helped us through the earliest stages. We have used Reading Chest for nearly a decade. This is in no small measure the reason why we have two avid self-motivated readers aged 11 and 6. The whole model adopted by Reading Chest is easy to use and very inexpensive. My kids loved it and we loved it.

We have just sadly come to the end of our Reading Chest journey, having used them for years, for both of our boys growing up. It has really been an invaluable resource for our family. We have really enjoyed all of the books sent to us and we’ve learnt things we would never have thought of researching (we received fiction and non-fiction titles) and read books we might not have naturally chosen ourselves. This has served to widen their experiences and broaden their knowledge. Both of our children are now confident, extremely competent and enthusiastic independent readers. The most important outcome for us on their literacy journey is that they now read for the pure fun and enjoyment of it, every single day. We couldn’t be happier and thoroughly recommend Reading Chest. The books have always been in great condition, the timing of the swaps extremely quick, and the whole service run fantastically well.

I have just cancelled my membership with you for my son. It feels like the end of an era! I wanted to write to thank you for the amazing and personal service you’ve provided. It meant that he had enough books during lockdown and the strange period afterwards (school leaving books to “decontaminate” if that’s the word for 72 hours so it took longer to turn them around) and beyond to progress in his reading. We’ve kept the membership since life got back to normal because it filled gaps when he had read his school books and we could pick things he was really interested in. When we changed a level you included a personal note to see if he still wanted one of the old level books that was still in the list. He’s now reading chapter books so we feel we’re on to a different stage but we couldn’t have asked for more, thank you!

We have just come to the end of our reading chest journey, with my daughters now aged 8 & 6 and after having been members for around 3 years. Both have loved receiving their books each week and choosing which ones they like the look of. As a teacher, I have really enjoyed them being able to experience a range of books and not just one scheme, as I think all schemes offer something different. It has been fantastic to choose books together- much better than the random books my son was coming home with from school. My daughter has never enjoyed reading until now! her Dyslexia tutor suggested we join to encourage her to enjoy reading. We looked at samples and chose the ones that suited her. We signed up Friday evening and the books have arrived today Tuesday! Envelope was addressed to her and she was super keen to get reading straight away! She has never asked to read at all today is the first time, i’m thrilled! The rucksack and reward chart add to the excitement. She has already read her first book and wrote her first review. I signed up Friday afternoon last week and the first books arrived on Saturday morning. My son opened the envelope and was super excited to start reading and earn stars on the chart. The books we were send had amusing stories which helps with the enthusiasm. So being able to compile a list of books we would like is a really good feature.

I discovered the Reading Chest when I was desperately searching for a way to help my granddaughter aged 5 with her reading. What a wonderful find this was. With access to a great variety of reading schemes including the one used by her new school my grand daughter managed to read, over a 3 month summer holiday, almost 30 books all of the right reading level for her, . This has made her transition to a new school so much easier and the teacher knew exactly which reading book to issue next. A brilliant start to a new term. I cannot praise the organisation of the Reading Chest enough. The child particularly loved the envelope containing books being addressed to her and she looked forward to ‘her’ books coming. We found the turnaround of books to be fast and efficient and contacting the staff was no problem with very prompt email responses. As a retired teacher myself I only wish I had had the idea of the Reading Chest and I will certainly be using it again over holiday periods and as a supplement to school books if needed. A brilliant resource to help progress and enjoyment of reading.

We’ve been using this service since June 2020 and I would recommend to anyone with primary school children! We started during lockdown as we didn’t have a supply of books from school during lockdown and I didn’t want my son reading on a tablet. I initially thought I’d just use them for that short period, but I’m still using them now and added my daughter too! I can’t fault the speed of service- it’s clear that the books are turned around as soon as they arrive as you receive them back so quickly, and the quality and variety of the books is fantastic too. You are able to select the appropriate reading band, and can even select reading scheme to mirror what they have at school (although I like the variety of the full range). I currently have my son on the top tier package as he likes variety and reads the books once so we go through them quickly, whilst my daughter has just started Yr 1 so she reads the books quite a few times so I use the Silver tier. Brilliant company!

I signed up to reading chest when my two children began reading at school. There are 2 years of difference in age, so I was able to get books that suited both their reading levels. These books were both fiction and non fiction. A very simple process of swapping books through the post when we had finished reading them. Highly recommend Reading Chest!!

I cannot praise Reading Chest enough – it has been a godsend for us as our village school doesn’t have a great range of reading books, and it has helped my four children develop their reading skills and become confident and passionate readers. Reading chest has been fantastic for my daughter especially over the lockdown, she was able to progress with her reading and enjoy a variety of books at home whilst school was closed. We have carried on with our subscription to give her a wider range of books whilst she is back at school.

We subscribed to reading chest during Lockdown 2020. We prefer actual books than digital. We absolutely love reading chest! I’m so impressed with Reading Chest, it’s been the best thing we did since lockdown, was to sign up and keep my daughter moving forward with her reading and school book bands.

What bothered me most about school closures was not having access to reading scheme books. Happily I found Reading Chest.

We have been very impressed with reading chest. The books are sent out very quickly when we return them. This has helped our son with his reading during the current situation and not being able to have books sent home from school. He initially had books uploaded to the computer but he finds it much easier to read a physical book as opposed to online. This is definitely good value for money and would recommend reading chest to anyone who wishes to help their children’s reading.
