This book is about
The book is about people that were captured and sold to be slaves. Some families were separated. They had to do lots of work on plantations and did not get any money or many breaks. Some escaped by the railroad and one escaped by going in a box in the post, which took 26 hours. Finally, there was a civil war between North and South America. The North who did not want slavery and won the war. Slavery stopped.

My favourite part of the book is
Finding out about Thomas Rutling, who was born a slave and what his life was like.

I would also like to say
There is a book like this about escaping called Escape from Colditz which I have also read.
