Can I choose not to be sent certain books?
You can add books to your “Bin” to ensure we don’t send them.
Just head to your account area, then click “Manage Book List”.
You’ll see a list of all the books currently in the queue to be sent to you, based on the preferences you’ve set up (your book band, chosen reading schemes etc).
Just click the “Bin” icon next to any book, then we won’t include it in any shipments for that list. You can also do this from an individual book page as well.
Can I choose the books I want?
Yes, absolutely! When you initially sign up to Reading Chest, you will only be asked to select your child’s book band (reading level). If you are happy to receive a selection of books from their book band, there is nothing more to do.
If you want to be more specific about the books you want, you can do this in your Reading Chest account area.
- You can add titles to your ‘Favourites’ list which we will prioritise for you.
- You can add titles to your ‘Book bin’ which we won’t send to you.
- You can select particular reading schemes, or just fiction or non-fiction.
Books can be added to your ‘Favourites’ even if they are not in your book band – which might be useful for a school topic, or for trying out some more challenging books.
Can I choose to be sent books from only certain reading schemes?
Yes, of course. Just head to your account area, then click “Manage Book List”.
You’ll see a list of all currently supported reading schemes, which include:
- Alphakids
- Bug Club (and Bug Club Phonics)
- Collins Big Cat
- Engage Literacy
- Floppy’s Phonics
- Oxford Reading Tree
- Project X
- Red Squirrel Phonics
- Rigby Star
- Treetops Phonics
- Yellow Door Phonics
You can toggle any of these reading schemes on or off, and your next package will reflect that preference. It’s useful if you want to exclude the scheme that your child already uses at school (so they’re not getting the same books from two places!), or if they have a preference for a particular set of stories or characters.
Can I choose to receive only fiction or non-fiction books?
Yes, of course. Just head to your account area, then click “Manage Book List”. You can then choose to receive only fiction or non-fiction books for that specific child under the heading “Book Types”.
Can I see a list of all the books my child has read so far?
Absolutely. Just head to your account area, then look for the button labelled “Reading Record”.
This will show you a list of every book that we’ve sent so far to that child’s list (along with the date sent / date we received it back too).
How can I make sure that my child doesn’t get the same books that they have read at school?
If you know what reading schemes are used in your school, you can simply exclude that scheme from your book selections with a few clicks.
If there are certain titles within a reading scheme your child has read, you can add these to your “Book Bin” which will prevent Reading Chest from sending them.
