This book is about
Alice is sent away to stay with her grandma because her brother is ill in hospital. She is very sad because she thinks her parents don't want her around. Alice meets a boy called Charlie and they soon become friends. They go on an adventure to May's Hill (Charlie's favourite place). One day when Alice goes to Charlie's house, she sees two people in suits visit the house. Later, Charlie goes missing and the lady that lives at the house tells her that Charlie talks about her all the time and that the house is Charlie's foster home. Alice finds Charlie at May's Hill and Charlie tells her that his mother owes money to people and is unable to look after him. His father left when he was a baby. Alice says she can help Charlie to write a letter to his mother because Charlie has missed lots of school and would find this difficult to do.

The main characters are
Alice and Charlie.

My favourite part of the book is
When Charlie goes flying into the cow trough when balancing on his bike.
