What's the book about?
Carl has to keep a diary for a whole week, but he’s sure nothing interesting ever happens to him. Then he finds a tiny creature in a pond, takes it home, and something very surprising begins to happen. As the week goes on, Carl discovers that life can be full of excitement when you’re looking after a very unusual pet.

This book is about
A boy called Carl finds a newt in his friend's garden. It is covered in oil, so he takes it to the vet to get it cleaned. He takes the newt home.
Carl's mother buys some Gringle beans to make him grow, but he does not like them, so he secretly feeds them to his newt and his newt becomes enormous.
Carl invites Ben, a bully, to his house and shows him the gigantic newt. Ben faints when he sees the newt because he thinks it is a crocodile.
The main characters are
Carl, the newt and Ben.
