Gift Subscriptions

Give a child months of levelled books through the letterbox with a Reading Chest gift. This section covers buying a gift, choosing a plan, redeeming a gift code, and what happens once the gift months come to an end.

Can I buy a subscription as a gift?

Yes! You can give a child 3, 6 or 12 months of Reading Chest, with one payment and nothing recurring for you.

Just head to our gift page, choose a plan and how many months you’d like to give, and add the child’s first name and a short message. We’ll email you a printable gift certificate straight away, with a unique gift code inside.

Print it out to pop in a card, or simply forward the email on. Their grown-up then redeems the code online, and we’ll start sending books.

Can I get a refund on a gift?

If the gift hasn’t been redeemed yet, we can refund it within 14 days of purchase. Just email help@readingchest.co.uk.

Once a gift has been redeemed, we’re not able to refund it.

How do I redeem a gift?

Lucky you! Head to readingchest.co.uk/redeem and enter the gift code from your certificate.

You’ll then set up your account just like any new member, including your child’s book band, so we can choose the right books for them. Not sure which band to pick? Our guide to choosing a starting book band will help.

Your gift months start from the day you redeem, so there’s no need to rush. Redeem it whenever suits you.

How long does a gift code last?

Gift codes can be redeemed any time within 12 months of being bought. The expiry date is printed on the gift certificate.

The gift months themselves don’t start until the code is redeemed, so a code redeemed in month eleven still gets its full gift.

I haven’t received my gift certificate. What should I do?

Your certificate should arrive by email within a few minutes of paying, so do check your spam or promotions folder first.

If it’s still not there, email help@readingchest.co.uk and we’ll send it again.

I’m already a member. Can I use a gift code?

Of course! Gift codes can’t be added to an existing membership through the website. Instead, email your code to help@readingchest.co.uk, and we’ll add the gift months to your account for you.

What happens when the gift months come to an end?

Your membership carries on at the normal monthly price for your plan. We’ll email you 14 days before the first payment is due, to remind you when it’s coming and how much it’ll be.

If you’d rather not continue, just cancel your membership and send your books back before that date, and there’s nothing more to pay. Cancellations complete once the books are back with us, so posting them a few days early is the safest bet.

Which plan and gift length should I choose?

Every plan lets the child borrow 8 books at a time, all matched to their reading level. The only difference is how often they can swap them: once a month on Bronze, twice a month on Silver, and three times a month on Gold.

Bronze is a lovely place to start. If they’re a keen reader who gets through books quickly, Silver or Gold means they’ll never be short of something new.

You can give 3, 6 or 12 months, and longer gifts work out cheaper per month. You’ll see the price and saving for each option on our gift page.

Why do I need to add a card when redeeming a gift?

You won’t be charged anything for the gift months.

We ask for a card so your membership can carry on smoothly when the gift ends, if you’d like it to, without any break in your child’s books. We’ll always email you before any payment is taken.
